Being Prepared - My Wednesday Diet
I've been asked quite a few times about what I eat, and what my diet is like day-to-day. I wrote it all down yesterday and here is what I ate and drank throughout the day. I got up at 5a.m. (and whatever time I get up, I try to eat within 15 minutes). Here goes:
5:15 - bowl of Kashi Cinnamon Harvest Cereal (because it has 7 grams of fiber per serving = filling!)
7:30 - bowl of instant high fiber maple/brown sugar oatmeal (there are better kinds than instant, but I was on the go, and needed the instant)
10:00 - Wheat toast with peanut butter (probably around 1 tbsp) - for those that know me, I don't really like peanut butter, but I needed the protein.
1:00 - Chicken Wrap. 1 breast of chicken diced, 1 tomato, 1/2 cup black beans, 1/4 cup corn, small amount of cheddar cheese. salsa - in a wheat wrap. On the side I had chick peas and a serving of tortilla chips
3:30 - Smoothie - frozen strawberries, handful of blueberries, a banana, low-fat yogurt, splash of milk all blended together with a little protein powder
6:00 - McDonalds (yes McDonalds) grilled chicken southwest salad. It is a great salad when I'm on the go, and no salad dressing is needed because of the marinade on the chicken.
8:00 - Air popped popcorn for a snack while I worked on the EDiM 5k.
Throughout the day I drank about 90 ounces of water (I try and shoot for at least 100)
Somedays are better than others. I try my best to get 90 grams of protein in. After that I try to focus on healthier carbs. Preparation is absolutely key. I cook up my chicken breats for the week on Sundays. I make sure by the time Monday a.m. comes around, that I have the healthier food I need so that I can eat the best I can. On weeks that I don't prepare so well, I find myself much more tempted to hit the places that aren't so good for me.
I don't ever really deprive myself of things that I want to eat or drink, but I do find when I put the time into preparing, I find the time to eat healthier. It's a discipline for sure. Wednesday was a good food day, but I also prepared it to be.
