Daily Food Log
Hmm, what did I eat today...why does that question make me nervous. Brian asked me to start a daily food log and I've put it off a couple days because each day something wasn't perfect. I finally told myself that today was the day no matter what. I've actually been very happy with how I've been handling meals since EDiM. Although to some people (okay most) it won't look like the best nutritional choices, you have to understand where I came from. I seemed to have lived in extremes when it came to eating (and exercise too). It was all or nothing for me. I would go through months where I wouldn't eat breakfast, and most of the time lunch, then get home from work starving and binge all night. I'd finally get annoyed with myself and go on a strict diet where I counted/measure everything but hated most of what I ate. Only to go back to binging once I stopped the diet. It was an endless cycle and made an already bad relationship with food worse. Being able to spend the month of May on the road with Brian really started to put the whole food thing in perspective. In the beginning of the trip every time we stopped at a gas station to fill up I had an overwhelming urge to get some chips and chocolate. Partly I think it was just out of habit. As the weeks went by I felt that less and less. It gave me a chance to focus on whether I was really hungry or if something else was going on. Anyway, once I got back I decided I just wanted to focus on actually eating meals and enjoying them. Try to have a happy medium between eating whatever I want and being "perfect" with food. So for most of the week I try to stay with a little bit healthier foods and allow myself a cheat day on the weekend - usually Friday or Saturday. That way when I really want something not so healthy I don't have to tell myself I can't ever eat it...I can choose it on my cheat day. Well, here goes...
Breakfast - sausage, egg and cheese on a spinach bagel
Lunch - leftover sushi (4 california rolls), 1/2 slice of leftover pizza (I didn't bring my lunch today and had to make do with what was left)
Dinner - leftovers again - I made a burrito/chimichanga thing that I saw on tv http://health.discovery.com/fansites/sam-zien/recipes/chimichito.html. It was pretty good and I would definitley make it again.
I only drink water or skim milk. I found out that I'm vitamin D deficient so I'm trying to drink more milk but usually it's just water. I LOVE root beer (which I usually had most every day) but I try to only have that once a week at the most.
I also went swimming this morning at the gym. I met Sandra there and did 17 laps. That was so much more difficult then I thought. I need to learn to breath better when I swim. Brian is going to have a EDiM mini triathalon this summer so I figured I should start getting in the pool.
So that was my day...see you tomorrow.

Nice to swim with you! No snacks today? Try adding a fruit or veggie and some nuts halfway between each meal. You won't be as hungry for each meal and you'll keep your metabolism going the whole day! Snacks are important...never go more than 4 hours without eating.
