Feeling Good
Brian and I have had a ton of time to talk along this trip. There are only so many songs you can listen to on the ipod before you get a little bored. We've listened to some motivational speakers along the way too. We've talked a lot about how your mind has a lot to do with weight loss. Not that you can wish yourself thin but that maybe by concentrating on positive thoughts and feeling good about yourself you'll naturally start treating yourself better. We got into Little Rock this afternoon and walked through this neighborhood by the river. It was filled with stores and restaurants and decided to stop in this place for a burrito. It was an extravagent thing to do since we haven't really gone "out" to eat on the road. We've been eating pretty well and I've felt good about the choices I've made along the way. We filled our burritos with good stuff but it was huge. That would have been a ton of calories had I eaten the whole thing. Of course they served it with chips and salsa - you know, the kind of chips that you can see the grease on. At first I thought I just shouldn't eat anything but in real life your sometimes faced with bad choices or worse. When we sat down to eat I tried to enjoy what I was having but be aware of when I was full - I'm still struggling with that but I didn't do too bad. I left half the burrito and most of the chips. We kept walking after lunch which was great because that had been more than I've normally been eating. The best part about this is I didn't feel deprived, I didn't feel guilty or mad at myself, I didn't feel so full I felt sick...I just felt proud of myself. I'm realizing that after being on the road for this long and making good choices it's getting easier and easier. When I feel good about the choices I'm making I end up feeling great about myself. I've spent so much time beating myself up for not being able to lose weight and I play that over and over in my mind. Maybe I just needed to change the message.
