Working Out and Feeling Good
I have a confession to make...I didn't work out at all last week. Not once! Everyone seemed to be on vacation and I knew no one would notice if I was at the gym or not. I liked it. It felt great. I slept in every morning. I still had to get up at 5:30 to feed Marley (I tried telling him we were taking the week off but he didn't seem to understand) but it felt wonderful getting back in bed rather than heading to the gym. I hadn't planned to take the week off but Monday morning I made the decision not to go and the rest of the week just followed. I didn't even feel guilty. I deserved this right? I've been working hard, I've been good. I'm allowed to take time off. The thing is by the middle of the week I realized I was starting to feel a little blue. Not only was I not getting up and exercising in the morning but I wasn't even walking at night. I was tired and didn't feel like it. How could I be so tired - I was sleeping late every morning? The less I moved, the less I wanted to move. My thoughts were turning bad as well. I started to think about how lazy I am and how I'll never eat right. Why am I bothering to do this? Those things run through my mind and half the time I don't even realize that's what I'm thinking. I've tried so hard to keep a positive attitude about myself but I slip back into that negative self talk pretty easy. Thankfully I met Jeanne and Brian at the gym today and had a great workout. Suddenly I'm feeling pretty good. I even met Brian again for a run at lunch time. I can do this! I would have never said this in January but...working out makes me feel better - physically and mentally. Back then I kept thinking it must be a lie that you get more energy from working out because I just didn't feel it. There are still plenty of times that I'm pretty tired after a workout but last week finally proved it to me. A body in motion stays in motion. Not only that but it can change your whole perspective.
